Default re torque rod bolts

Doing my oil pan gasket on an 02 5.3...
Fella told me to re torque my rod bolts while I am there.
Never heard of anyone doing this..my truck isnt broke and I would like for it to stay that way but I would re torque them if I had more input.
Input?

Stock bolts are torque to yield I think. So you can't exactly retorque them.

Does GM require you to bring your vehicle in for rod re-torquing?

I wouldn't be acting on any recommendations from that fella lol. Rod bolts are torque to angle. Do not re-torque them.

Man oh man some people

As for changing oil pan gaskets id put RTV in the 4 corners of the oil pan to.help seal the covers to the oil pan. Do not go past the rubber line thats on the oil pan or you risk pushing rtv into the oil pan

^^^This. A rod bolt should never be retorqued. Some will say that the rod bolts are the highest stressed part in the engine. If you want to replace them with new bolts, then replace them. Dont break them loose and retorque them

He meant to "retorque" them to factory specs...not loosen them and torque them back..not saying any names but he owns a local vette specialty shop but I do take what anyone says with a grain of salt until I verify it. For all I know he would try to sell me a ls2 when I spin a rod bearing a few miles later..
Thank you all.

Torquing them to factory specs AGAIN would basically snap all of them off LOL. First pass is to 15ft/lbs and second pass is to add 85*.

I wonder how many Corvette engines that guy sells a month?
