Think of it as a cam is the brains of your engine truck engines come with a tiny cam geared for torque so just a small one will make it like a while different engine

ok let me explain this in a nice way.

I don't know how anyone feels torque, what you really feel is horsepower, anyone notice the vehicle accelerates faster at a higher rpm even with less torque?

Torque is the measure of the engines output in ONE revolution, while horsepower measures the engine output from one rev multiplied by the number of revs.

So while your engine is making big torque at 3500rpms, and making much less torque at 7000rpms, the rate of increase in RPM is greater than the rate of decline of torque which means you make MORE power.

F1 engines, bike engines, high revving engines in general make very little torque, but are able to carry that torque over a very large rev range which is why they make a lot of power, an F1 engine makes 202lb-ft of torque at 18,000rpms, which means its making 730 hp at that range.

A good cam will shift your torque curve UP, and to the right, and reduce how fast torque drops after peak torque, all those put together make for much more average horsepower throughout the range.

One analogy I heard before is that horsepower is how fast you hit the wall, and torque is how much of the wall you take with you after you hit it.

The way I perceive it is that an engine makes torque. Once the engines starts spinning it makes horsepower. Horsepower is the rate at which the engine produces torque.

Just my 2 cents.

I love torque dont get me wrong
This is a erroneous question on all accounts! Last I checked, everyone who has put a cam in their trucks has gained horsepower, torque and faster E.Ts. That is what you are paying for! I don't get where you are really only gaining torque...... If I read your question wrong...... Re-phrase it

HP = (Torque x RPM) / 5252
Torque does all the work and horsepower is nothing more than a way of measuring an engines ability to produce torque at any given rpm. Obviously this means that any time you gain torque at an rpm you will also increase the hp at that rpm.
