There is no inline filter on the 04 and up trucks. Only the sock on the pump, for some odd reason. I don't think it would be a good idea to put one inline, either, because the regulator is in the pump module. It would restrict too much flow.

yea i did it all on my own. i just used my shop forklift w/ tie downs attached to the 4 corners.
so what i'm understanding is, when i put the new pump in, the new fuel filter was already attached to that, am i right? or is it completely separate from the fuel pump and still in the tank somewhere else? i'm still getting that hesitation but its not occurring as much or as strong. i guess i should probably move on from the fuel pump and filter, to some of the things that 1FastBrick mentioned.
Try cleaining the Throttle body opening, the Blade, IAC Valve and its passage, and also the mass Air flow sensor.... BTW if you haven't done it a fuel filter is also recomended.

FWIW IAC Valve is short for Idle Air Control Valve
about 4 weeks ago, i seafoamed my truck. i poured it down the brake booster line, and while it was soaking i sprayed the seafoam deepcreep into the throttle body opening. the truck ran good before the the seafoam and even a little smoother after the seafoam. so i hope this hesitation isnt from me seafaoming and causing something to clog up.

Isn't the IAC different, too, on a truck that new? I know my 04 is different in a lot of ways from a friend's 2000 5.3 . Maybe after you clean the TB it'll get better.

it wasnt the TB that was causing the problem, it was the huge crack in the rubber right after the MASF. i cant seem to find anything to replace it. all the checker and autozones only have that cupler for little riceburners. i need one w/ an ID of atleast 3.5".
