More than likely it's the slip-yoke. Do a search on here, I'm sure it's been covered time and time again.

^^ agree OR that slip yoke is dry...need to grease it (if its an escb) *the rear shaft is what im talking about* ive seen a couple have a clunking noise where its dry and when you put it in gear it forces it to move

Put some grease in the slip yoke and that will solve the problem.

It's the rear slip yoke, trust me. GM re-designed a new one to fix that proble but it's astronomically high, like $150. But it does work. The OEM design is notorious for the clunk that you hear. You can barely throttle the gas and it will "clunk" everytime.

2000 silverado lacks power, put new fuel pump in and a new transmission and plugs , still runs bad no power

Mine is doing this also, and I have filled the slip yoke with grease twice.

The nickel plated slip yoke cured my clunk...installed it when I swapped my trans this past May

I have a chunking noise in my avalanche so i replaced the u joints in it about 2 weeks ago, still hear it..... not as bad but its still there - Thought my tranny might have been low so I checked and its right on the money, rear diff was low, not really sure exactly how low but I was able to put in a little last bit of gear oil i had at the house. I can also feel vibrations in my steering wheel but I think that this may be due to a front end wreck and may be in the steering gearbox, almost sounds like its loose. sounds like i have to add this to my list of to -do's
