Default Snapping belts

I have had 3 new ac compressor belts snap on my truck in the past 2 weeks. Anyone know what goes wrong with the compressor to cause this to happen? Thankfully it was only 98 degrees here today.....I only lost 10 lbs due to sweating on the way home from work today in stop/go traffic.

Are you useing gates belts? also storm5.3 was haveing the same problems as you are and he went to talk with them and they were giving him the wrong size belt. Make sure your getting the right belt. if you are then get the next size larger. Have you changed the underdrive pulley? if so use the gates ko60345 belt.

Check the A/c belt tensioner. We have had to replace some for this problem, tensioner
gets weak and throws the belt or tears it up. Also have run into problems with the a/c compressor also. Put a new a/c belt tensioner on first, that will be the cheapest thing to try. If it still happens I'm afraid your most likley going to have to replace the compressor.

BTW, what goes wrong with the compressor when it does go out? It has been cooling just fine, really cold AC. What fails on the compressor that makes them go out?

Yeah, I just had to replace the belt again for about the seventh (7th) time in about a year. I had to go up in size because the one oreillys' was giving me would only last about 2-3 weeks. Get the next size up...Zed

What Storm said! I had the same problem with 2000 Silverado 6.0l. Started when I replaced the belt and tensioner with a napa aftermarket. Then replaced 2 belts in a month, tensioner again (ac delco), then 3 more belts. Parts guy said "Damn we sell a lot of these belts". Went up one size on the last belt, no problems in 3 months.
