What gears are you guys running? If he has 3.42s and you have 3.73 you may take him.

I don't think he will catch you until after 50. since he's running the supercharger it has to wind up first, plus you know his low end sucks with those wheels.

I dont think this can be stressed enough. Heavy 22's and a centrifugal dont work well together.

Are the Vortech superchargers that bad in these trucks?

I had a 5.0 Mustang with a Vortech, it didn't have the lack of lowend power that everyone told me I would have. But, I was spinning it faster than "stock", smaller blower pulley. I was actually quite supprised when it dynoed just over 300rwtq at 3000rpms.

They arent "bad". They just really arent the best choice for a 5000lb truck unless your spinning it pretty high and have a stall. Definately not a bolt on and go, at least not the unintercooled ones (like mine). Some smaller lighter wheels, a converter, and a smaller pulley (with the requisite custom work for the bigger bypass valve ) can change that pretty quickly though.

I think your truck might hold him until the supercharger winds up, his 22s will definately slow him down off the line, but once his supercharger kicks in I think he'll start to walk over you

You also have to realize that your 5.0L made decent TQ and in a semi-lightweight car that made for good acceleration. I also had a Vortech on my Mustang but I had a 3500 stall so I was always in my powerband. In our LSx based trucks we don't make any real power till after 3000rpm so pretty much anything below 3K is garbage. Centrifugals don't make squat for power till you get em rev'd up and considering the base kits are only about 6psi or so at max RPM you'll only be seeing a couple lbs. of boost below 3K I would imagine which = suckage! LOL

I love centrifugals but not on stockish trucks. I can't wait to see what Greentahoe turns once he gets him combo set up. It's gonna be prety sick I bet.

The truck kits are only 6 psi? That could help explain it. I'm thinking along the lines of 8 psi kits, that could make a difference on when it comes into power (boost). Mine was probably making 10+ psi, so it was making even more boost sooner. I never mounted a boost guage on my 5.0, but the vortech was previously on my friends 5.0 and made 10-10.5 psi max. I don't remember the exact dia of the blower pulley, but it was definitly smaller than a 8 lb pulley.
I was always happy with my 5.0's torquey powerband, especialy seeing how I was still using stock 2.73's. It was probably just a real good combination of parts.
