Default So what are differences in a 2500 and a HD

I have a 2003 2500 HD in our shop right now, if my memory serves me correct the front suspension looks the same as my 2500. Is it the demensions or am I missing something more? May sound like a stupid question but I am really curious.

2500: smaller frame (5" vs. 9"), Light duty suspension components (t-bars, lower control arm, shocks) , 8.5" front differential, Autotrac 246 t-case

2500HD: Big frame (9'), Heavy Duty suspension components, 9.5" front differential, Non-Autotrac t-case

so...most of the truck actually

BTW...it's kinda funny that the first two answers are from a guy that owns an 2500HD and a guy that owns an 2500LD

Yall forgot one important part,

2500/1500HD = 9.5" 14-bolt semi-floating rear axle; (10.5" on 5-speed trucks).
2500HD = 10.5" 14-bolt Full-floating rear axle; (11.5" on 8.1 & Dmax).

2500/1500HD = 8600 GVWR - not exactly light duty...
2500HD = 9200 GVWR - old one-ton specs.

So what about torsion bar keys? I want a little more height than my stock keys can do. What about the "green keys".

Green keys will get you about 2" in the front. Not a bad option.

wow, I didn't know that frame was that much larger on the heavy duty.

I couldn't find much as far as aftermarket parts for the 11.5 inch rear, differentials, etc. Tractech said they are coming out with a detroit locker for it.

Its a spanking new rear. Give the market a year or so yet. They just came out with gears for it about 4 months ago.

Oh yeah, do a search on the 2500LD and 2500HD differences. There was a good post going over teh differences not that long ago.
