I pulled the origionals and junked them for a pair of VR straps, similar to what was linked before, I can post pics if you want. I started getting the damn notices like every other week, I called and they had to have the old set back to do the recall, so I got a set off a wrecked truck, tossed them on and brought it in. I had the recall done, and when it was pulled back around I pulled off the new ones, put my steel strap ones back on, and gave the shitty Chinese ones back to my service writer and said thanks for making the junk mail stop.

I got a recall letter for my old truck, it was a 99.

when I bought my new truck they had put brand new ones on it, and they stick out, both of them. So I have to kinda tuck them in.

I'd like to see a couple pics of the VR straps.

I didn't realize that they extended the recall to the 99's until a week ago when I brought mine in for the abs sensor recall that I got a letter for. While it was in the shop, the service writer (a friend of mine) called me up and told me that I was due for the tailgate strap recall so they did that too. I never got a letter for it yet though.

Those VR straps are nice...been thinking about getting them for a long time, but I keep dumping my cash in other areas of the truck and putting it off. I have to get my tailgate fixed anyway from the time I drove off and it wasn't fully latched closed and it slammed open and bent the lower right corner. (I thought about asking my buddy to see if he could warranty it by saying one of my cables snapped causing it to happen, but I didn't bother...didn't want to put him on the spot...I'll pay for my stupid mistake )

I got my new ones put on today at the dealership. They seem fine. They are both the same length and neither of them stick out when the tailgate is closed. I'm pretty happy, sorry you guys are having so much trouble.

Who gives a **** if they are built in China? You don't like it then don't buy GM. It's as simple as that. They don't contract Americans because someone else will do just as good a job for less money. If you had a business to run you'd do the same. Like I said, you don't like it, then don't buy GM.
