Mine definitely does switch out. I left in 4hi a while back and like an idiot (nervous) hit the 2wd button about 50 ft out by mistake. Started blowing the rear tires off. Ran about an 8.80 or some crap like that. About a second after the 1-2 shift still works best for me.

I miss having a posi-loc on my truck. 2 wheel low is pretty tough. I used to take a 4.3L blazer out and and floor it. It wouldn't do anything in first but when it shifted to second it would pull the truck sideways. I never took it faster then about 40 as it didn't want to shift into 3rd, and sounded like it was going to blow.
Nice thing about having cheap trucks to abuse.

Ive never tried in my truck. I dont remember if he said anything about bouncing the rev limiter. I think he said he was doing about 80 in OD. I know a few years ago I was reading some test drives in Car and Driver and every 4wd they tested they tested top speeds in 2wd, and 4lo. They all topped out in the mid 80 range.
Personally Ive run in 4hi at speeds around 100, but would never try anything more than about 30 in 4lo, and that was just to prove to a hard hooking WS6 T/A that trucks could play too
