Thoughts about 4.8 and 5.3
before i get this started i just wanna state a few things to get them out of the way:
5.3 makes more power on the dyno than the 4.8 - fact
with everything being equal the 5.3 will most likely beat the 4.8 in a race - fact
the point i wanted to make was that i think the race between the 4.8 and 5.3 has alot to do with the driver/tires/rearend setup. if a 5.3 driver has a horrible launch and the 4.8 driver has a good launch, it can be a close race. many people just dont consider the driver possibilitys. along with the driver comes the rearend setup, everyone has em different . a 4.8 with 4.10s and posi would smoke a 5.3 with 3.42 open end. its obvious that little things like this can make a big difference. thats why i dont understand why so many people think they're two totally diff trucks. couple small mods or a bad driver can completely change things. thats why the arguing is stupid. the trucks come stock with diff rearend setups plus people always change em. combine that with driver differences and u never know. so basically when u pull up next to someone on the street... anything can happen 4.8 or 5.3. thats what im trying to say, neither one should really be a huge favor

no ****? a smaller motor with the right mods can beat a bigger motor? damn this is some kind of new invention or something, surely things like this haven't been goin on for years and years in racing right?
give it up man, if the 4.8 were just as capable as the 5.3 GM wouldn't be selling both of them. can't you just lay this argument to rest already!

Hyper--
I have a 4.8 with the 5-Speed. Its the fastest STOCK form of the 4.8 EVER made.
I used to think that I could outrun any 5.3 stock to stock. Then I learned a valueable lesson. I can't.
Have I beaten a 5.3? Sure, but then again ive seen a prelude with nothing but intake and exaust beat a Z06 (no **** I have it on film....Z06 killed it launching it and still damn near won).
My point is this, yea STOCK to STOCK a 4.8 can win, but the 5.3 driver is going to have to SERIOUSLY mess up. Just because every driver of a 5.3 isnt a pro doesnt make the 4.8 an equal engine.
--Tires....rear-end.....DOESNT MATTER. The 4.8 and 5.3 BOTH have the SAME factory options in rear ends and NEITHER of them have a 4.10 option. Launch DOESNT MATTER. The couple of times Ive beaten the 5.3 in the quarter he came SCREAMING by me right after the line.
They are faster STOCK to STOCK, they have FAR SUPERRIOR top end power (S to S). In other words baring a signifigant driver fuckup by the 5.3 driver he's going to EASILY beat a 4.8 all other things being equal (even if rear-end and tires are different and in favor of the 4.8).
In short: Sure a 4.8 can beat a 5.3 Stock to Stock. **** I coudld beat Mike Tyson in a boxing match.....but it would be a BIG damn FLUKE. And the fact that you can pick up a fluke win doesnt prove anything except that your somewhat lucky.
Personally I take pride in my little V8. One day it'll be a monster, but the one thing that will never change is the fact that when I was stock the 5.3 was faster END OF STORY.
When its time to party
We will party HARD.
P.S. Hyper, forgie me for being a bit harsh, but ive been reading your posts and you seem very much to enjoy picking fights just for the sake of arguement. That just agitated me.

I'm keeping a close eye on this thread.
When this one finally ends up locked lets just let this debate die. The best way to prove a point is to just do it and have it on video for the whole world to see.
