Tow Pig Cam Swap
I did this a while back, out of all the stuff I've done this is probably in the top 5 for funsies.
I had some extra parts stashed that I wanted to make use out of.
My 2001 Sierra 2500HD, 6.0l LQ4 with the 4L80E.
EGR Delete, Electric Fan Conversion, few other things
Bought the Summit version of the LS1 Hotcam. Part number 8701R1, specs:218/227, .522/.524, 112+2.
I had some TSP 7.450" Hardened Pushrods in a box I got for free, removed the springs on these stock 317 Heads and installed the stock springs from a set of 30k mile LS2 243 Heads. I saved them Springs from the current 243 Heads that are on the 6.0l in my MCSS.
Tearing into it here..
Hotcam in and Timing Gears aligned properly..
Got it buttoned back up and a base tune in, then I was able to take it out and dial in the tune..
Stock Convertor is like 1800RPM if not more, there's no surge at all with this Cam in the 6.0l it runs great. Actually picked up some gas mileage with the swap.
This was purely done for funsies, sounds pretty good too.

Factory Injectors are a hair under 25lb/hr, I have the limiter set at 5600 RPM, shift at like 5400 or so and if I remember it wasn't above 80% duty cycle, that is one thing I log. That's tuned at 12.85 AFR from 5000-up.

That's if PE even comes in on the stock parameters, the things that have to be met for it are pretty extreme in a stock tune.
Im at 12.5 in the peak torque range but that's in Power Enrichment and unloaded, which that table is based on Throttle Percentage and RPM so depending what I'm towing it should kick in. I have it coming in at 2500RPM at 70%, and as you are higher in RPM less throttle needed to kick in.
My above post was wrong, I was thinking of my car stuff. I have AFR set at 12.5 all the way to the limiter, 22* timing at 2800 then to 18* at 3200 all the way to the limiter. Haven't gotten any knock towing a car on my trailer, then again have never datalogged it. Has plenty of power, run 89 Non-Ethonal Gas.

No negative effects while towing with the electric fans? I have an 03 2500 HD, thought about the swap. Have had several people tell me I was better off with the stock clutch fan. I tow up to 9000lbs with my truck, and not often. Was wanting to do the fans in attempt to pick up some MPG when the truck isn't towing. (99% of the time)

I have them setup to come on low under 30mph and to turn off at 35mph, 45mph with the AC on. That is the factory parameters. I've never had an issue, when moving there is air coming through the front of the truck over the Condenser, Radiator, and the other coolers like it should.
From what I've researched the difference between the Clutch Fan and Electric Fans was a small gain in power because of less drag. I did it for room to get to the front of the Engine if I needed to work on it. I got them for cheap and do my own tuning so it was just a matter of installing it all.
