trans making whining noise?

yea i've been reading a few things about converters whining. it does it if its unlocked or if its locked on the highway...

Yes, if the pump was shot the truck would not move, but if it was on it's way out it could function as normal yet be noisy, kind of like a power steering pump...did it sound like a power steering pump that's low on fluid? That's sort of the sound that a trans pump can make.

yes, it kinda sounds like an electric whine to me. i've also been reading that converters sound like this too

I don't know if this is always the case, but I have seen where front pumps have gone bad and blown fluid out of the vent.

Hmmm, I'd think that if it were the converter, locking and unlocking it would change the noise, since when the converter is locked both halves of it are turning at the same speed, I could be way off base here though...

Does it make the noise at all with the truck sitting running in park?

not in park or neutral.. i reved it up in both.

hmm. If it was a converter problem, you'd think the noise would be present in park too while revving?

You sure the noise isnt coming from your rear end?

positive. i got in the bed while scott drove it and the noise was right under where the cab and bed meet.
