Truck died again!!!
Alright guys I need some good info on what could be causing my truck to just die @ random times. 01 sierra 5.3, it first happened when I over reved the motor one night and the truck just died, I disconnected the battery and let it sit for a few mins and it started right back up. I tried changing the PCM twice one with another custom tune and then the last time with a bone stock one and it died with both of them the first time it lasted about a week and the second time (stock pcm) about a week and a half. When it dies it's not getting fire but is getting fuel and if I let it sit for an hour or 2 it starts and runs fine. Some people suggested the crankshaft position sensor so I bought a new GM sensor and changed it today. It never threw any codes or gave me any warnings, it just died. Does the cam position sensor have anything to do with that too??? Please if anyone has any other info I would really appreciate it because I'm pulling my hair out on this one!! THANKS!!!

I checked the codes this afternoon and there were 3 P0405 P0463 and P1631, I took my egr off so thats one of them. I am checking into the other 2 and I just drove my truck abut 70 miles after I changed the crank sensor and it hasnt died yet. Has anyone delt with any of these codes before?? THANKS!!

Well starting with the codes...
P0405 - EGR thingy, you removed it so no big deal
P0463 - Fuel Level Sensor Circuit High Input
P1631 - Theft Deterrent - Password Incorrect
I wonder if your vehicle has a PassKey 3 system, the ones with the radio ID thingies in the ignition key. But thats just me taking a guess at where to start looking but with a error code regarding teh Theft Deterrent system that would be certainly something that might cause your vehicle to die randomly.

My ignition switch went out on my Mitsubishi a long time ago. I would be driving along and it would just shut down. I guess something internal on the column was worn. I was told that having a heavy key chain can cause issues. So if you're one of those guys that has a janitors set of keys hanging from the ignition you may want to look into something lighter.

Thats crazy, same thing happened to me yesterday early afternoon. I went to the 4X4 shop to see if they can figure out what this "rubbing" noise was all about when I turned on the 4X4, but when I was there the noise went away. On the way home all of a sudden my truck died, started right up and like a couple of feet later turned off again, started it right up the second time and did not turn off and I got all the way home.
