Hey guys, i have a problem with my 02 duramax. I went out the other day and the battery was dead. I put the charger on it and let it charge over night. The next day it started up but the meter on the charger was reading very low. The voltage meter in the truck was reading like 10 -12 volts while it was running. I thought it would be ok but when i went to get in it and drive it the next day it was dead again. I charged it again but now it wont do ****. It wont crank and i even tried to jump it off but it wont do anything. It is making some strange noises also. It sounds like the fans are coming on and cutting off. This was going on while the charger was on it and the switch in the truck was cut off. I am stumped. Do i have an electrical problem or is it just dead batteries. I know it takes alot of juice to crank one of these trucks but i thought it would atleast do something when i tried to jump it with my other truck. thanks for the help guys. Charles

 

Sounds like the battery has a bad cell or an open at one of the terminals. I'd start with checking the batt and cables for corrosion and take it from there. If that stuff checks out OK, there may be a problem with the charging system, but more than likely the battery and/or a corroded cable is at fault.

 

i hope that is the problem. I just bought 190.00 worth of batteries.

 

clean the **** out of the terminals, and your cable ends, that sounds like its trying to turn on and off.

also, do you smell a sulfur smell at all?

how good is your alternator? you can run off a new battery, but not to long.
