Default Underhood pad

Does it do anything? Is there any reason I want to keep it on the new hood?

I'd have to cut the pad for the air passage.

i think it keeps your hood from getting hot and probably keeps sound in the engine bay rather than letting it escape since GM doesnt like loud stock

If you ever have a small underhood fire (like when you overspin a HO alternator ) it will keep the heat from bubbling your paint.

the insulation serves several purposes:
*keeps down engine bay noise
*protects the hood paint day to day from engine heat (ever see some of these older imports that didn't come with them? you can actually see hot spots in the paint fade)
*protects from underhood fire - I had a small fire under the hood of my old S-10, it protected my BRAND NEW hood (collision replacement), this was not a truck that I would have ever expected to have a fire in the engine compartment
*retains heat after engine shut down, which is a good thing if you are returning shortly to go again, it takes less time for your engine to reach optimum operating temperature for optimum efficency

Yep they put that stuff in there for a reason, I'd say just cut out what you need and leave the rest in there.

And yes, I am talking from personal experience.
