Honestly I have used the heads all the time when moving engines and pulling my engine a couple of times. You cannot connect the chain to anything but the heads when lowering the engine down in due to mating the back of the block to the bellhousing. I cant think of the size bolt off the top of my head. Take a bolt off your alternator that is the right size match it up at a hardware store buy 4 of em. Put them in the front and back holes of the heads and lift it. The damn heads are held down by 13 bolts you arent going to crack them IMO. My heads arent cracked and the motor ahs been out 3 times. When putting the motor in the truck you have no choice but to use the heads threads.

purchased the hoist and leveler assembly today and got it put together, what a pita. LOL I was just thinking that I wont be able to set the engine on the ground though when I get it off of the truck because the legs of the hoist are in the way. Will I be able to lower the pallet and let it rest on the legs of the hoist? Sorry if these questions sound stupid lol.

I think the most important thing with using the aluminum head bolt holes to lift is a little common sense. Dont get a 4" bolt and thread it 1/2" in and then let the chain be out torwars the end. That will equal disaster. As you may find most peoples "don't do this" disclaimers are just to make sure it is idot proof.

go out and buy an engine stand if you are planning on the cam swap your self. You should do rod bolts while you have it out too

I didn't run into that problem as my tranny was in the next bay. If thats the only bolt you can get to then you gotta do what ya gotta do. The guy I was working with wanted to hang my engine on the stand by the heads, I didn't do it. As long as you feed the bolts as far into the hole as possible and get the chain pressed against the head I don't think you wil run into issues. Just be smart about it.
P.S. Nobody likes Cody.
