Sounds like u know the cheaper way will be more labor intensive. Blasting trades your $ in exchange for givin back time. That said, I believe u to be on a budget, so it's a DA. Can't comment on leavin in garage & how long before things occur, cause I've haven't had to do that. But if I may, if there some reason why u don't just wait? I'm guessin u have the time now to do this, but low on funds. Am I close?

When I first started my job I had funds but no time.... now that the economy has flopped I still have the same job not much more time but took about a 65% paycut so you hit the nail on the head. Plus i got laid off for 8 mos so i'm playing catch up. I am no expert so I come here for advise but the rocker panels are starting to get holes in them. I'm afraid if I don't start doing something with it, it's only going to get worse and cost more money. I got a paint quote in this town to just paint it black with me getting it ready to paint and it was $12k..... but for the next 6 mos I wont even get the $5k that i think is a fair price to charge. theres only two dents in the truck on the bed. i need some stuff shaved but I already had the tailgate shaved and added a rollpan. If you guys think I'll be okay to wait, then I will do just that. or if it's best to sand it, primer it, put a cover on it and stick it in my garage (just purchased a home! hell ya) then i'll do that. I'm trying to keep an open mind and take advise and do appreciate it.

I don't know all there is to know, but I do OK.
That said, rockers are a very important piece cause they're a structural member. I was told a story where someone MIG'd in some rockers, attached a hilo & dragged around the shop just to illustrate how strong MIG'ing is compared to less inferior welds. Don't cut a corner there.

Isn't that the truth on all projects: I have time to do my stuff, but no $. And vice-versa. At least w/. my projects.

True, $12k is a lot, & if it's black, it'll show bad work in a heartbeat. Paint & body isn't cheap, by any means. Great work shows in end result.

Yeah after seening some of the guys work I don't think i'd pay him $1,200 to do it. So i'm shopping around and trying to stack $ away. but I beleive i need to make the rocker panels my first priority and go from there.
