I've always used Castrol GTX. No problems. Change every 3000. Also use Lucas, whether it makes a difference or not.

ive been using royal purple forever and just switched back to mobil one.

thank you for everyone's input. the main reason i am considering doing this, as i said before, is the cost. average is $30-$40 every 3 months for an oil change (assuming i dont have to change it sooner because of mileage) vs about $85/year (25,000 miles) for the Amsoil oil change

You have to continue to change filters and top of the oil when you plan on using amsoil for an extended amount of time.

So basically, you'll be using another $6-7 filter, and another $9 quart of oil every 3 months.

That goes for any long term oil regiment. When I run Mobil 1 for 10K, I'll change fillter at 5K, then top off with half quart.

So, for original oil change, about $30 for 6 qts mobil 1, and $14 for Wix filter. Then halfway through, another $14 for wix filter and another 6 bucks or so for a quart of mobil 1.....

So about $64-65 bucks for 10K miles on Mobil 1 and wix
