Default when is it too much HP/TQ for the street??

I saw a post like this in another part of the board and thought I'd see what my fellow truckers think. How much power is too much when it comes to running on the street on street tires?? I know right now I couldn't go from a stop with anyone if I had to, and from a roll would have to run from about 35 at least to keep from having bad tire spin. When does it become nonstreetable?? 300rwhp,350,400?? It sux to think a slower car/truck might beat you on the street because you go up in smoke and they are making less power.

i fully intend on running 700-1000hp some day, ON THE STREET. i am not building a race truck, i am building a daily driver that will rule on the street. i can't think of a better platform for what i want.

even with my last truck and aproxamitly 600rwhp i only got beat a couple of times on the street and that was by cars with slicks that did BIG smokey burnouts. that truck was completly worthless without 4wd, i could light em up at 50+mph.

i would think anything over 400rwhp is not going to help you much on the street.

Gotta be nice to know you can make that much power and still use it.Us 2 wheel drive guys are at a nice disadvantage there. I just remember when I was running the 4.8,I could roll out about 10mph nail it and it would just go. I love the fact I'm making some good power now but it kinda sux knowing most of my street playing will have to be from a roll.

there are 1200-1500rwhp cars running around daily driven all over the country, in a truck though it does get harder to drive when the hp levels go up due to the low weight over the backend but if you're careful it's all safe. i plan to make well over 450 when my 370 is finished and spray on that, or maybe one day down the road boost it for a good 600+ daily driven rwhp with a 3600+ stall, 4.10s/locker and a 4pt cage in the truck

Too much power

My old GTO, which was intended to mostly a track only car, put down 572tq at 3000 RPM. It never dropped below 545tq. On street tires I could write my name in any parking lot I want (Its hard to cross the T) With the 11.5inch slicks on its a little better.

My truck (w/ N20) is at/about 300hp. And that can get away from you if your not on it.

Even with my setup and my weak cam 99 I have to ease into the throttle during a race from a dead stop with the stock tires or they'll light up and then it's all over.

It doesn't matter if it's 300hp or 1500hp. On the street or at the track, if you can hook up, you're in business.

All these traction sob stories is one reason why I think my SS is the platform. Granted a single cab would weigh less. I totally agree w/ parish8, throw as much power down as you can and let all 4 wheels give you the advantage. My AWD makes it one step better since I don't have to worry about any 4wd on/off switch or vibration issues at high speeds.

My Tahoe hooks up on street radials good enough to destroy 5 transmissions and 2 rearends.I think that the coil spring rear suspension and better weight distribution help a lot.Maybe the new 4L80E will make things better.

400rwhp is great, but I prefer n/a motors for that. It's far easier to feather the gas when runnin from a dead stop with that. Espically if you have some stall you can just flash the converter up from a dead stop and get moving. Boost/nitrous is more difficult to control wheel spin due to the sudden hits.

My "other" truck is going to be around 400rwhp with a 408 stroker and AFR-185cc heads. I am going be runnin a set of Hoosier Pro Street tires (radials and DOT legal) on the back of it. They make a set that's 29x12.5x15 and even wider at 29x15.5x15. But they will still be street tires.
