What kind of spray paint did u use? And did u use a primer coat? And also what grit sanpaper?

To do it clean you need to take it off. Open the hood & pull the cover off between grill & radiator. Reach down in there with a 10mm socket and back off the 2 nuts holding it to the grill. Take some sandpaper and scuff it up enough so the paint will adhere but not rough enough to leave gouges you will see when it's painted. If you want, go to your local auto parts store and buy the primer, color matched paint and clear. Or since your truck is black, hit it with some spray paint primer and black paint(I prefer Krylon). If you're picky, wetsand the color coat for the super-sexy smooth finish. Wait till dry then reverse the steps. It now officially took me longer to write this than to do it.

pop the hood, take there are 4 plastic lock screws in the corners of the grill and one metal screw next to the hood latch, with all those removed these is one metal clamp thing inbetween the blinkers and headlights, pull on that(shouldnt break but its in there pretty good so it takes a tug) then you have the grill off and the symbol is just clipped on, my clips broke so i used some pvc cement and blued that thing back on. real easy, buy some spray paint and high grade sane paper to rough it up and youre set

You want him to pull the entire grill to paint a cheap-*** bowtie? You can remove/replace the thing in 5 minutes with a beer in one hand. With all the time spent discussing the topic, Dry Kill could have done this 10 times over. This is by far the easiest "custom" mod you could do.

I am doin mine as we speak. Took two seconds to pop the bowtie off from the two nuts holding it on from the back. And no I did not take the entire grill off! My buddy that is a body shop owner is painting chevy black today is spraying it with black then a few of clear for me. WOOT! Called the dealership about getting one, they said they had 3 in stock..........for $35.00 a piece, not black either!

well i have a 2000 and couldnt get to my bowtie without taking the grill off, plus i was cleaning the radiator fins while i was at it anyways so it was worth it. i dont know what the grill set up or whatever looks like for ther newer models

i just had the bodyshop paint the bowtie for me, but i did the grll myself

what did you do to the grill other than the insert? i have that crappy unpainted chrome lookalike plastic and i've always thought about sanding it down and painting but i wouldnt know if it would work because plastics are often unpaintable

WERD! Did mine 8 months ago and no peeling even with high pressure car washes.
I used some scotch brite pads to rough up the smooth factory finish on mine, make sure you get every edge so it will not start peeling from the edge and ruin the whole thing.
