Where to find this dexos 1 motor oil
My owners manual says to use only dexos 1 approved motor oil. Where do you find that other than the dealer? I went to my local Auto Zone and they had never even heard of it nor had it in their computer under 2011 Silverado 5.3 engine.

Use mobile 1 or amsoil full synthetic. The Dexos is a conventional/synthetic blend. If you really want to split hairs on it the mobile 1 is dexos criteria approved. They just don't want you running straight dino oil in it. When you get down to it almost all oils are good stuff and will go the distance.
I run 1 year 25 K amsoil and amsoil filters in all of my stuff for years

I think you are probably right. Cars back in the 50s/60s used regular oil and ran well over 100K miles even back then. But they did require changing more often.

Dexos cost
I won't say this is true in all cases, but from what I have seen, dexos is cost competitive anyway.
If your truck is still under warranty, you will want to document/have receipts for non-delaer oil changes that show an approved oil.
