Default wobbling/loose steering wheel

I read the post "Thumping or Knock in Your Steering Wheel?" -https://www.performancetrucks.net/forums/showthread.php?t=392041 - and this doesn't seem to be the only problem.

The wheel itself is loose. It just happened suddenly yesterday. The wheel just wobbles and it seems to be a problem in the top of the column around the tilt mechanism. I removed the airbag and the center nut was still tight and I don't know where to go from there. I hate to take it to a dealer if there is an easy fix so let me know what you guys think

Thanks!

What caused it to just get wobbly on you. Anything significant, like hitting a tree?

Dude, if your steering wheel is wobbling on you, then why would you NOT want to take it to a qualified professional to fix it? You sure don;t want the thing to explode in the middle of a curve at 90mph would you?

It sounds like your upper steering col. tilt bearing (known as a Sphere Kit) is seperating.

Can you physically shake the steering wheel back and forth? How much play does it have?

I'm not opposed to taking to a dealer and I'm planning on it thursday. I just hate to pay for someone to fix it but I don't really have a choice now.

It has a slight telescoping effect... I can push it forward about 1/2 inch and pull it right back out with ease. It has about the same amount of play up and down as well. It's still easy to turn, doesn't have any resistance, no noise or popping...

lol... I have no idea. I've never seen anything like it really, I just took simple left turn and the wheel was loose.

I had the exact problem. I could wobble the wheel toward my chest from all angles. Dealer found that I had busted a clip on within the column near the dash. Unless you feel comfy picking apart the steering column, I'd let the chimps on bay 3 handle it.
