The question is, do I still need something to hold the pulley when I install it? If not, lead me to the water, and i'll gladly drink.

You don't need anything to hold the pulley from turning while you press the pulley onto the crankshaft. Tightening the bolt is up to you.. I'm not gonna suggest what I do since I get bashed for it every time.

You thread the threaded piece all they way in hand tight then put a wrench on the thrust bearing part of the tool and run the pulley down. If everything is oiled its goes on very easy in less than a minute of wrenchin.

What about a chain wrench? If I wrap the pulley with leather, or something thick first, will a chain wrench damage the pulley under heavy torque, while i'm tightening the bolt to spec?

The pictures i've found on google aren't great. It's a Powerbond underdrive pulley/ balancer. It does not have cut outs, and has those three holes machined into it for a bolt style puller.

Assuming its dished like the stock pulley? I'll try to find some pics of one. I've got an idea on bolting a bracket to the 3 holes and weld on a nut to hold with a breaker bar.

man, you better start to love **** like this. the more you work on your truck, the more you will learn to hate it. first and foremost, NEVER EVER a job, big or small, without an adequate supply of smokes and beer. second, a compressor and a good impact gun will save you HOURS of your life. third, be prepared to amass a small fortune in tools. its better than a big fortune in mechanic receipts! its a love hate thing....love the anticipation, love to start a new mod, hate it when **** goes wrong, the truck hates you back when you flog the **** out of it after finally completing the mod.
