You wont be happy with the V10 for towing ... MPG is around 5-10 with a 28' boat .. probably lighter than your truck on a trailer. He also has issues with 10-15% grades .. 45-50 mph ...

i am not making this stuff up. i went to ford boards and have been reading all i can find. MANY of the diesel guys have complaints about not geting the expected 18mpg and the other things i have comented on.

another note about the ford v10... if you want to haul a heavy load, but not go fast that it is your answer. All the v10 does when you rev it is suck up more fuel (its a low end motor w/ a 3.55" bore and a 4.16" stroke). I have a buddy that drives a excursion (scaled in at over 7k) w/ the 4.33's and the v10. He averages 11-13 mpg empty and maybe 8-10 w/ hauling a 4 place snowmobile trailer. The catch is the guy rarely goes above 65 (drives like a grany).
A second opinion on a diesel would be the dodge w/ the B5.9 cummins they are the best out there end of story... course you get them wrapped up in a shity dodge shell.
If you are convinced on a gas motor.. I would tend to agree with you that of all the trucks out there the ford f250 w/ the v10 would suit you the best....just not sure how mod happy they are because they are built for low end and don't like to rev at all

v-10 sucks bad!! gas mileage is nothing along with the power curve. a guy that hawls pipe for us has one. with minor mods ,programmer, exhaust, intake. and a stock duramax pulls a whole lot better. we passed the V10 at 80 going up hill before the EDGE in the Dmax

I had a brand new 2002 v10 2wd f250 for a work truck. Pretty gutless, bad gas mileage, and I actually got in a situation on some slightly soft, level ground with a 5000lb trailer where I couldn't move, and the tires wouldn't even spin. Just sat there and did a stall speed check. I really didn't like the truck very much.

Jim~ My brother has a 03 Silvy 2500HD with the Duramax. He started it every morning this past winter at 3 am and never had a problem. He jsut plugged it in at night and had a warm cab when he turned the key in the moring. I know that duramax cost more but in the long run it would save you money. The thing towed my truck 100 miles to Dez Racing this past November at 75-80 mph and it never stumbled once. The thing is a beast and gets good gas mileage. Also they are reliable and can make crazy power with just a exhaust and a programer. Besides Fords suck
