Your thoughts on going from 255/70 tires to 265/75's?
My truck is a 2wd and I've lowered the rear 2" to level it out. I'm thinking about going to a bigger tire for 2 reasons, 1) to fill in the wheel wells more since I won't be lowering my truck any more and 2) to help me get some traction. I have 255/70's now and am thinking about getting 265/75's, the 255's are 30.1" tall and the 265's are 31.6" tall. That's 1.5" difference and will effectivly change may 3.73 gears to 3.55's because of the taller tire. I have a real bad time now with traction, tires spin real easy. I'm thinking this change will help traction but I also don't want to loose all my low end. Should I do this or stay with the same tire height and just get real good tires?

The factory generals SUCK! My rears were bald at 8000 miles with 3.42 gears. Find some better tires.

i suggest some bfg radial t/a 275/65/16. they look pretty bad *** and give pretty good traction. i have the hothkis 2/4 drop so it kinda fills the well a little more but i have some before/after pictures. check out the sig. and click on texas members, i'll have the only truck on there, also if you click on my picture it'll show more pictures.

I check the size of the 275/65's, they are the same height of the 255/70's plus they are a fatter tire, more tread on the ground.

Y2K- Are your 255's Generals or some other brand? Just wondering-cause I've been meaning to make a post to see if anybody else has been as impressed with the Generals as I am. I hook comletely on just about any surface-a lot of times when I am trying to show off instead of peeling out it just goes. I have about 11,000 miles and the back ones are about gone but I have been attributing this to the fact that they must be a soft comound and soft compound=quick wear but good traction. I was planning on going to a 18inch wheel and using the 295/45/18 Goodyear F1 like the lightnings use but I have already bought some more Generals and have them sitting on the shelf ready to go.

My stock Generals wore out in 20K, these tires are Pep Boy Adventurer HT'S. I got them because I read a write in Truckin mag about a year ago about them. They had some one from the Hotkchis Company test them for them and give his opinion on them as a replacement for an OEM tire. They drove a Suburban with the stock tires (Uniroals I think) around a road course and through a slalom. Then they put on these tires and re-tested, the Burb ran quicker in both tests and the tester gave them a thumbs up for a good replacement tire for someone who want to spend a lot of money on tires. I think they've sucked from the day they were installed, pulling out of the parking lot after they were installed I spun the tires which it wouldn't do with the General tires. It spun them at every stop on the way home with out me trying, I just thought it was because they were new and had a film of crap or something on them. They've gotten better and I have increased the power in my truck but they still suck. I would put a set of the stock Generals on in minute before I would do these tires again.
