Whats the most that can be milled with out having ptv clearance issues on these 5.3 with flat tops anybody know? Cause i was thinking of putting my 243s ported and milled to .030 but dont know if will clear?

iamkeniff 02-18-2010 10:38 PM

thatll only raise you up like 1 point
say 8:5:1 .030 is a 9:5:1 almost...maybe someone else can chime in on that

I dont care who spec'd that cam, Im speaking from personal experience. I personally like my cams to hit hard right off the converter. Most of the trucks I build 60' hard, they may give up a mph on the top end but they are a lot more fun to drive.

Theres a crew cab running around Baton Rouge with an LQ4 and a 216/220 cam with a 3200 stall hitting mid 12s. If you want your truck to roll out hard for roll racing then your cam will work great but for dig racing with stickies youre going to be lacking. Even with 11:1CR your 60's arent going to be very good.

Your setup is comparable to one of my 5.3 setups that had a 222/224 in it backed by a 3200ish stall. That cam didnt "turn on" till almost 3600 and it only 60'd 2.0s. On a 150 shot the converter flashed to 3800ish and I went to 1.8s spinning all 4 ou of the hole(damn all terrain tires lol).

At the end of the day youre going to go with what you want and you may expect different performance than I do but there is nothing I hate worse than a lazy throttle response and the bigger cams in heavy trucks just seem slow to wind up to me anyway.

X-2 bigger cam isn't always better - espeacilly if you want track times. . the highest i'll go would be a 228R- kept in mind you need a big a$$ stall to get it off the line, the tune also plays a big role.

:ps- i dont need a lq4 to hit mid 12's
my 5.3 is going to hit that with a cam and head work.. ;) . . .

i've seen .045 w/out PVC,the most i'll go is 0.30 and get a thinner gasket.

you got to kept in mind the more you mill- you can throw ur intake off and not sit correctly on the head.
