my 08 has a flex section right after the flange. Got a pic?
As far as exhaust, if you like Magnaflow's, find the longest one you can ( my muffler is 28" ) and have a shop do tail pipes. Mine is very mellow and in 4cyl's you don't notice much difference at all.
Good luck.

I got an '09 rcsb and mine has the third cat-lookin chingalerra after the y, as well. And right after it is the goofy lookin flex connection (whose purpose is as of yet unknown to me). I would be willing to bet that the device after the y is another cat that the general put in there to shut the tree huggers up. I found it particularly interesting when I noticed on my air cleaner box that there's a little sticker that mentions the engine is in the Tier 2 "ULEV" emissions category. This doesn't surprise me however, as the air resources board here in california has been crawling up everyone's asses in the construction, freight, and ag sectors, forcing them to replace perfectly good running diesel engines in their equipment according to a schedule they pulled out of their asses that phases the engines out according to their tier classification (tier 0 is already phased out and tier 1 can operate in cali until like 2013 and then they too have to be scrapped). The thing that pisses me off the most is that I'm still seeing public school buses (like 1960's vintage) that are still in operation today that bellow black smoke everywhere when they take off from a dead stop. They too should have their engines scrapped, according to the rules that everyone else has to follow. But guess what....they're exempt. Typical government ****....do as I say but not as I do.
