Yep,a VVT CAM can't be designed to make as much peak power as a big LS3 CAM due to PTV clearances...But in the world of mild everyday driver CAM's...CAM for CAM a VVT CAM will make more power under the curve. Mild VVT CAM's are also stock stall friendly and maintain decent gas mileage as long as u don't spin em to the moon...I'm waiting for an email from TSP with the VVT-1 and VVT-2 CAM Dyno's...

I have considered a small vvt cam for my DD 6.2. I spoke with Matt at Texas Speed and he thought their vvt 1 cam would still need a small stall in the 2600-3000 range. That really turned me off as I didnt want to buy or drive a stall. After totaling up the cost of a vvt cam, phaser limiter, valve spring kit, pushrods, tune, cam install, converter, converter install I think Ill just wait for a maggie. By that point I would have spent 3/4s of the cost of the maggie kit which I could install. There would be no loss in drivability with a stall either. Plus I'm not sure of the gains of the smallest vvt cam would be worth the cost.

So the only difference between the base pull was a VVT cam with a VVT tune?
No gains from 3k-4500? From a cam I'd suspect a gain in that rpm range unless it has lots of duration which I doubt this cam has. What are the cam specs? To me though that graph doesn't show the ability of VVT cam or it's intended purpose. It looks like any other ordinary big cam that shines up top. For marketing purposes that's a great graph and the "100 hp" gain from a VVT cam will sure wow 95% of the people on this board. Why not an engine dyno graph from lower rpms with a full sweep to see the potential and benefits of a VVT cam?
I'm all for VVT and the cams that will be produced. It's a great way to broaden the power band for a street vehicle while allowing for better fuel economy etc. A track vehicle that spends it's life within a 2000 rpm window not so much, but maybe they will be able to see gains within those rpms over a standard cam. I'd run a VVT cam in a newer truck that's primarily for street and towing any day over a standard cam. Make broader power with a smaller cam while still being stealth. Thanks for posting.

I was surprised with that also desert. The hwole reasoning iv been looking into vvt was for the possibilities of creating power "under the curve".
I still think to get the most out of a vvt cam your going to need dyno time and a knowledgable vvvt tuner

there is a loss below 3k rpms. cam design is a nasty game of give and take. this cam doesn't seem to have a compromise in it.
i like the idea of a comparison between mast, comp and tsp. all the stages. showing the afr on the dyno, showing the timing curve used and the vvt tables.
dunno, thats just me

Yea..I wish we could see each CAM on an engine dyno to capture low rpm Tq. From what I've read the TSP VVT-1 CAM is the only one that is stock converter friendly. I'm still waiting on a dyno from TSP...
