2011 5.3 6spd vs 6.2 6 spd
I am considering purchasing a new sierra. Both trucks are ext cab 4x4. I really would like the 6.2 6spd with 3.73's but I am not sure it is worth paying the extra and getting the little worse fuel mileage. From what I can read on here a good stock mpg number is 11-13 with the 6.2 and 6speed. I assume I can get 15mpg with the 5.3l, 6sp, and 3.42(since you can not get 3.73s with this setup).
I pull small loads (-2500lbs) regularly, and I pull a 7,000lb boat often in the summer. I know both trucks will get around 10 or less pulling, that part does not really worry me. I know the 5.3l has the ***** to pull my truck but will not pull it as good as the 6.2 obviously. Both trucks are identical trucks except drivetrain. I will be paying about 1,800 for the 6.2l, the 5.3l does have the information center thing in the dash, but I am pretty sure that was the only thing extra it had.
Can you guys give me some insight on some situations I may need to know? I would like to tune either truck, I have had a 5.3l to the max before so I know what its capability is. How is the 6.2l with issues and how about the 6sp? I will want to level it out and put a bigger tire and with warranty issues I do not want to have common problems and be negated my warranty for having a tune.
Thanks

I had a 5.3 last year and just recently got a 6.2 and I would definitely suggest the 6.2. I got 19.2 mpg on the way to Houston from Austin and that was at 65-75 the whole way... I haven't pulled a trailer yet but I will let u know on that one. The 6.2 definitely has alot more power

Yeah man, my 5.3 isn't exactly fuel efficient at 14.2MPG city/highway combined.
I would have loved to get the 6.2, but it was more for the 100hp than the fuel economy, But they didnt have one on the lot, aside from a couple of Denali's priced at 72K
It's a V8...its gonna burn gas. If you want fuel economy bump up to a D-Max.
Oh and a tuned ECM for the 6.2 will blow the 5.3L fuel economy out of the water any day....pay the 1800 bucks man....you'll be glad you did.

I own a 2011 6.2 gas mileage is 18-19 on the highway about 14 in town. The power is bad *** and gets better with a good tune.
5.3 in a crew 4x4 is a gutless underpowered turd with lousy fuel economy because it is lugging to pull such a heavy truck.
Any amount of money you save in the initial purchase of the 5.3 you will blow plus some trying to mod it to make it run, even then it will not run anything near what a 6.2 does stock.

Love my 6.2, but I want to give you the heads-up that with my 3.73s, leveling kit, and the tires I've been kicking 11-12mpg average on every tank so far. I only have 1200 miles on the truck so far, so that may improve, but I plan on tuning it anyway. That said, I don't regret stepping up to the 6.2 at all.

On the mpg side I just rolled 1K miles today, been getting 14 or so city/highway, 18-19 highway. I pulled my 7K travel trailer today 100 miles with half of it on back roads and half on highway I got ~9 according to DIC.
What price are they wanting for the 6.2? I got my CC 6.2 z71 4x4 LT leather w/ power buckets for 34K.
For that price they threw in bed linder, window tint, factory steps, rear wheel well liner, and vin etch
