3rd Cat and Headers in Texas

Default 3rd Cat and Headers in Texas

Kooks LT's and catted Y has finally arrived. Just realized the 3rd cat will be eliminated. Has anyone in Texas or any other states where emissions are checked as part of state inspections had any issues with the 3rd cat being eliminated. The 3rd cat is not monitored so cel's not a problem. But wondering if a visual would be a problem?

Have your previous inspections included a visual check? If all they really do is pop the hood, look at the VIN and plug the OBD-II cable in, you're good to go.

I believe the "third cat" is a resonator.

Definitely a third cat. Any members who are state inspectors? Is there part of your inspection procedure that tells you how many cats to look for on these trucks?

All anyone looks for is main cats. The 3rd is a after catalyst for final cleanup and no one pays any attention as long as the main cats are in place.... for now

Thanks, just wondering if I needed to hollow the cat out and cut off the new Y and weld it on. Wonder what that'd sound like?

No codes/CEL, no problem

Just had my tahoe inspected a few months ago, LTs, no cats, plenty stinky, never had a problem. Never had a inspector stick his head under anything for a visual check... (not to say an **** one wouldnt, just never had it happen personally)

On my 6.2 I knocked it out when truck was still new it got a little louder but its barely detectable. I'm sill on stock manifolds cats and y pipe other than a bola muffler.

ive got the kooks longtubes w catted y pipe and deleted 3rd cat. put a nice catback on and the inspectors will never know.
