the 6l90e is a simply put a better version of 6l80e
down side that its heavier, harder to find, not much upgrades out there for it yet
so i would stick with what every body has and built to save my self money and tests
a friend of mine broke 2 90e's and he has a stock motor, stock tune
and the truck that never had any hard time at all

My opinion...if you want a 6spd truck, sell yours, and buy a different one. It just isn't worth the hassle and $$ to do a conversion.
As for the pros/cons...The 6 speed is better in every way, especially with the 5.3...It needs those closely spaced gears. I've had a 4spd 5.3, 6spd 5.3, and now a 6spd 6.2.

The real advantage of the 6 spd is the 1-4 gearing is nice but aside from that the 5-6 is bupkiss. The final drive ratio is the same so there is not overdrive advantage and a good built 4L60E can do the jon for sub 500 whp and a good quality stall will quickly eliminate any hole shot advantage the 6spd offers plus the go fast parts for the 4L60e are a hella lot lower cost the the 6L80e.
Dont mistake what Im saying as the 6L80e is a nicer trans but I think it would be better to simply sell and buy a truck with one than try and swap one in your current truck now.

I have what a performabuilt level 2 would cost with a converter (4L60e) in my 6spd swap and thats with a custom 2 peice driveshaft and a custom carrier bearing mount made by Madman. The swap is just as hard as installing a 80e. I finished my swap in 3 days after i got all my parts through the dealer. Selling his truck and jumping into a new one is easy unless you are like me and decide to BUILD what you want and not BUY what you want. Besides who says he'd be able to break even or gain a little on selling his truck? If you trade it in you are really going to get screwed over bc the truck is already modified past warrenty.
The harness is EASY as hell to install. If you can change your own brakes, drop your own truck, install a converter you can handle this swap. IF YOU CANT DO **** THEN PAY SOMEONE!
Read over my swap thread, it explains EVERYTHING to a T with pictures damn near. Also you can pm any questions you have. Plus the swap is pretty straight forward if you buy the correct year harness. The ecm will send the tcm the things it needs so no need to deal with the tcm being reflashed like i had to.
Just my .02 take it how ya want.
