12K miles is sweet mine broke twice at 12k miles. Believe me the 80e swap is not easy on the new models. making it fit is 1 problem and the wiring is not the same as the gen3 models . Get a 6l80 and for the wiring take it to the dealer let them flash a 6l80 tune in ur truck.

That bites. Hey I'm new to the site, so don't bite my head off, but can't you build a
4L60E to handle more horsepower as well? I know you could do some work to the 700R4, and make it stronger in the old trucks, isn't this basically the same transmission, just with electronics added?

yea you can but it's basically a car transmission in a 2 1/2 ton truck. Which it doesn't like to much. There is several guys who have good luck with built 4l60's. So it's whatever you feel more towards in personal opinion.

yeah the 4l80 robs power and torque and you need to change diff gears if you dont have 4.10's

you could use the 4l60 If you get urz built nicely.

What would you rather have, some power robbed, or being broken down on the side of the road. The 4l80e is what should come STOCK. The 4l60e is built to go behind 4 and 6 cylinder engines in cars making 150hp, not a 4500lb truck with 330hp. Also consider cost....fully built 4l60e = $2500. Low mile 4l80e takeout = $800.

what your saying is right but having the 4l80e work without problems is gonna cost him alot also. Dont forget that the 80e didnt come out in the gen4 models and he cant do the wiring thing that is done on a gen3 swap he need a standalone to make it work and no one sells a harness that makes the 4l80e work on a gen4 truck. SO its up to him which road to go. and I dont say not to choose the 80e road believe me its worth it If he's doing it but he's gonna find a problem locating the rpm signal till now I cant find 1 my self

didn't realize the swap wasn't as easy on the gen 4 (makes since considering GM doesn't use the 4l80e in trucks anymore). That makes it a tougher decision.
