Hi guys I have a 09 sierra crewcab 4x4 5.3 6 speed tranny and Im looking at changing the gears. It now has 3:42 and Im thinking of 4:10 and was woundering what you guys thoughts on this might be. I was also woundering if I do swap gears how I correct the speedo for the gear swap

Thanks in advance

why are you looking to change gear ratios? do you tow? with a 4x4 and having to change two sets id prolly look into some other mods first. but if you do the swap a simple tune will correct the speedometer, abs and any other small issues you may run into. do you have a custom tune already? if not i would look into that before a gear swap

Yes Iam looking at swapping the gears for towing I dont have a tune yet but do have a diablo handheld programmer and Im not sure if it will handle the gear swap What other mods would you recommend doing if I dont do the gear swap? The problem I have is that I can be crusing down the road (empty) and come to the smallest grade and it will shift down into 5th and sometimes 4th I have pulled trailers with the truck and find it even worse when Iam towing.

I can tell you that you will like the swap, but it will be a hefty bill. What size tires are you running?

The gears will make it alot easier to tow. I'm guessing you have the predator handheld which will allow you to change your gear size and tire size.
A custom tune will help alot, however you can also get a custom tune for your handheld through Diablewtune.com which is just like a blackbear minus the transmission settings. I had a diablew tune on my truck before and it ran great!

there is no way I would want 4.10's with stock tires and a 6 speed
first gear is going to be retarded low

People here with 4.56s and 4.10s might disagree

There's a couple guys who are running 4.10s with the 6L80E or a 6L90E and they're quite satisfied with their decision.
