6.2L Muffler Swap Any Low End Torque Loss?
I Just bought a 2012 Silverado with the 6.2L about 3 months ago and so far I like the way the motor sounds but the exhaust is just too quiet. This is the 3rd silverado I've owned and all my other trucks have had aftermarket exhaust so it feels weird having it so quite. I've heard the stock exhaust setup (Single 3.5"In/Single 3.5"out) is already pretty efficient so Im not expecting to see a huge power gain. I'm really just wanting to do it for sound purposes but at the same time Im worried that I might lose some low end response or move it up in the power band if I open it too much with a straight through 3.5" muffler like a Magnaflow or Borla XR-1. I Do a lot of stop and go driving so the truck pretty much lives in the 500-3000RPM range so I dont care if I gain 5-10 HP at 5700RPM but I do care if I lose 10-15Ft of torque under 3K range.
The reason Im worried is, because I know for a fact that on my 04 5.3L when I swaped out the factory muffler to a 3" dynomax bullet dumped it over the rear axle I loss some Low end throttle response and torque even after retuning it. So I would love to hear more of a roar from my 6.2L but not at the expensive of throttle response/Low end torque. So those of you that have done a muffler swap with the 6.2L how did it perform afterwards?

You aren't going to notice a difference one way or another as long as you use a free flowing muffler (Not a Flowmaster). I'd be interested in buying your tailpipe if you decide not to use it though.

when I first came here, my very first post was about this sorta. I didn't realize the stock exhuast was 3.5" and made the mistake of welding in a 3" connector pipe to the muffler since the offsets were diff..duh and then I realize how it seemed that my low end was a tad stronger and my top end seemed a tad weaker.

Yeah I understand the concept of using a smaller pipe and muffler to increase low end torque, but was just trying to see if I left all the stock piping in place and only switched out the muffler if I would be about the same down low.
Wouldnt it be kinda pointless to have two reducers attached to both sides of the muffler to take it from 3.5" to 3" and then back 3.5"? What about running a single 3" muff from the headpipe and replace the tail pipe with 3" dumped over the rear axle or would that just be about the same as keeping all the stock pipe and just switching the muff? lol Just trying to figure out the best setup for more sound and the same or better low end.

You have a 93 Octance Diablo tune, I seriously doubt you'll notice any lowend loss. You also have to remember your 04 had a 4L60E with has a 3.06 First gear in the trans and probably 3.42's out back.
In your 2012 you have a 6L80E which has a 4.03 first gear in the trans and 3.42's out back, any loss in low end is negated by the fact you already have a metric **** ton more right now =).

To reiterate on the post above, which the 93 octance tune you can bet your *** they beefed up the off idle timing(Burst timing) to give you alot more low end, they might of advanced the VVT timing some off idle as well.
So what im try to say is, the 6.2 is a compleltely different animal than that turd you had in your 04, Welcome to the new technology =).

Im most likely going to swap in a borla XR-1 with a 12-16" case.
