As someone that has two trucks with 4 speed autos I find the 6 speed autos to be very annoying. I don't like all the constant shifting and GMs programming that gets them into 6th gear by 40 mph if not sooner. All that can be changed but I'm set in my ways and prefer the simplicity of my 4 speeds better. I suppose if I daily drove a 6 speed I would grow to love it but on the outside looking in, its not for me.

i dont know what people are talking about hunting... i guess it could be the way you drive but i find mine downshifts to the right gear everytime... but then again i have the 6.2L and i give mine alot of gas....
NO complaints here.. the thing moves for a stock truck....
i drove my dads 2000 5.3L the other day and i was like man ill take my 6 spd back... haha.. his rpms fall to low and bog the truck... unlike the 6 speed...
all in all i love the 6 speed... but i still think GM could have done a little better with the gearing....

Yeah- I notice that, the RPM's dropping off big time on my 4L60 vs the 6L80 in Moms' Esky, but I don't think I'm getting the entire picture as the Esky is packin' the L92 while I'm runnning a mildly tuned LM7. I wonder that some 4.10's could really tighten things up on the 4L60. I'm kinda swain' toward something like a 2006 CC because the seats are nicer and ingress/ egress I find easier.
I'm starting to think an L-59 is a pretty good building block anyhow- with it's bigger injectores for flex fuel a bigger cam should be real accomodatble.......

I like the 6 speed myself but my truck does have the 3.42 gears instead of the 3.08's. Line one up beside a 4 speed truck and you will love it.

I agree with lsxs10. I have the rcsb 4x4 with the 3.42's and I love it.

I loved the idea of the 6 speed but everyone I was drove I hated. How it ran through the gears and the slow shifts, how it would down shift on the smallest hills and worst of all how retarted the down shifts were all set stock from the factory. It's like no one knew what they were doing over at GM.

That all changed when I drove a new 2011 3500 RCLB 6.0/6L90E WOW what a difference. I'd never believe it was the same truck. The refined the shift tuning a TON! The throttle is responsive, power is immediate, shifts are a lot quicker and linear. It holds the hills perfectly. And the passing down shifts are amazing. I've got a Nelson tuned 6.0/4L80E, it's faster than any stock truck out there same displacement or below 4 or 6 speed. And the 2011 is right there for speed, I was blown away. With a tune on that combo you'd smoke the tires off all day, WHAT A BEAST!

Hands down I love the 6 speed, it just needs to be tuned for the best results for my tastes.

6-spd it is! There's always that glaring reminder of the large gear spacing. It's easy to forget how a tune brought my truck to life. I relished the time on the Hiway in Mom's Eksy downshifting from 6th to 5th was just right to close a gap in traffic. Yeah- I'm smitten, now to gather my nickles and dimes............

Edit- anyone have any opinions/ experience on the Comp 263PHR14 Camshaft.........

i own a 6l80e truck youll hate it on DD but on WOT damn it works wonders
just watch my accleration with my fat crewcab and tiny 5.3 wich was stock ate that time
you van see how after shifting from 1st to second it keeps the RPM very close to the peak power and always over 4,000rpms wich pushes the truck faster than a 4 speed

Thanks for the video. I'm lookin' for the right truck now. Even when not WOT'ing, up the slight 1.5mi grade a prelude will get the jump on me because I'm waaaaay outta the powerband and it I were to downshift RPM's go to the moon and I end up wasting everything. Yeap- that 6spd you're always in the right place at the right time. I'm sold.........................
