OK just looked up the GM camera accessory installation instructions. The procedure I listed is what has to be done when adding the camera to a OEM nav radio that was not factory equipped with the back up camera. I remembered bumping into this a few months ago and reading it but just wanted to double check.

Lock pick does remedy this and lets you use a variety of different cameras as well as unlocking a lot of the PITA features of the stock deck. You just have to figure a place to mount the camera if not using the OEM bezel style assembly.

Million dollar issue found. Anybody have pictures of where they put their AFTERMARKET camera? I have been debating this install also.

I'm putting in an aftermarket nav head unit and camera this weekend. I mounted the camera last weekend, pretty easy, with just the video cable to the head unit and a power/ground that I hooked up to the 12v outlet in my trunk. I'll let you know how it works out, the whole setup ran about 550, I think the cam by itself is 100 or 150. If you have an aux video in on the factory radio I imagine it would plug right in.

In your trunk? How does that help pickups?

Forum member here I have done some work for mounted the camera flush into the folding door to the right of the license plate where you stick the tire tool in to drop the spare.

But his truck does not have a spare. I didn't do it so the possibility may be there to retain use of the tire winch but I'm not sure

I suppose you would be on your own finding a 12v power source if you have a pickup. Shouldn't be hard.

power it up using the backup lights. If the camera is powered at all times according to gm on their OEM cameras it shortens the camera life.

This is what I'm doing. I lost my spare and winch to lose 87 pounds I'll probably never need, and that's exactly where I'm gonna put my camera (el cheapo egay job) once I get the time.
