Adding factory remote start

Adding factory remote start
Well I know the basics, the truck already has AP8 code, so I know it is "ready".
Heres the deal, there is a shop that I know that has their own Tech2. He says he can "sync" two fobs to the truck, and voila remote start works. Now before I go and buy 2 fobs, I need to know is it possible.
All over the internet i read that you have to purchase #17801236 , to get some code to "activate" the remote start.
I'm assuming the code is for the VIN database, that way if the ECM ever has to be reflashed it is in the VIN.
Who has exprerience with this? Where you at ws6? lol
P.S. this is for my moms 09 GMC SLE, not my personal.

I had mine done for the remote start. They did have to get ahold of gm for some code to program in for it to work. With 2 fobs and them doing that it was $250. As far as a way around the dealer or what not I can't help ya.

ya thats what I keep reading. That kit is about 150 on part direct. Then the guy charges me like 30 to hook up the Tech2. But if I can do it by just buying fobs it would be sweet.

Well I talked to the guy again and he said that he has remotes in stock. He charges 85 for the remote and programming, I only have to pay if it works. I guess Ill let ya'll know next week when I get a chance to stop by his shop.

It wont work just programming remotes. When you purchase the kit from gm you have to call gm TAC and give them the remote start activation authorization. They then add the remote start option to your VIN at the factory level. Then the BCM and vehicle antitheft module have to be reprogrammed via gm TIS 2 web. This activates remote start option in the BCM and the vehicle antitheft module. Then you have to program the new remotes to the truck using the tech 2 from the special options menu in the BCM.
Don't even waste your money buying remotes from the guy. You can't buy the activation code only without purchasing the kit that includes remotes.

I knew you would chime in sooner or later lol. Thanks for the help man. Well for the price the dealer wants, I think I'll just tell my dad to take the truck to Best Buy and add an aftermarket remote start/Alarm.

Viper clifford and any aftermarket alarm remote start WAAAAY better range and functionality than oe. The range on factory remote starts and unless you bend over and get the 2 way system has a unchangeable 5 minute run time. that's not even enough to get the engine warm.

ya I have the factory remote start on my crew cab SLT. I just like it because depending onOutside temp it will turn on my seat warmers and heater.
Or my A/C if its warm outside.

Aftermarket will turn all that on also depending on if the installer enables that feature in the databus interface module for the alarm. My clifford I put in my truck does everything the stock one did as far as light illumination at disarm and seat heaters when OAT is cold and so much more.
