Any reason not to special order?

operatorfailure: If I can stop laughing at gonzo for a minute - I special ordered and got just what I wanted. Spending that much money I wasn't interested in settling for anything. I did have to agree to take whatever incentives were offered when the truck arrived, but was lucky that they didn't change at all. I also ordered it through USAA, which is a great option if you're military or a veteran.

I wonder if they lock in rebates if you put money down, if you don't the rebates aren't locked. Sounds reasonable anyway. If that's the case I can trade my trans am as money down to lock in rebates.

Its a matter of getting what you want and only settling if the dealer discounts it enough for it to make sense
My last truck 2006 crew vortec max I ordered leather loaded no moon roof.The vortec max option just became availible so there was none on the lots.Dealer treated me right,got it for $500 back invoice cutting into his hold back,truck came in got current rebates and had Gm card that cut down the balance another couple grand
Current truck was bought in late in the model year,very few NHT truck within 500mi.Found it 300mi away.They wanted it gone It was $39500 msrp,I bought it for 30,950,On top of that I had a pile on the GM card and $1k Gm loyalty.It worked out to 13k off MSRP is what i paid.
Its a matter of getting what you want for the deal you are happy with.

I say special order it. In my case super picky also about colors and options and couldn't find what I wanted. If I have to make payments for a few years it damm well better be exactly what I want. So I ordered it in june of 10 and picked it up on november 1,2011. Actually the wait did suck but man the anticipation of it's arrival was well worth the wait.

I special ordered my '12 Chevy Avalanche in early Nov and got it Dec 20th which wasn't too bad to wait and I got what I wanted for what I thought was a good price. I got the rebates promised plus another one since I'm on the loan for another car from a different manufacturer. I'm much happier than if I would've had to spend extra for features I didn't want.

I ordered mine AND got all the special rebates and same deal on trade as if I were buying out of their inventory.
Dealers rarely stock shortbed reg cabs on their lots so had to do spl order... took 10 weeks to arrive in May from March of last year.
Order setup was:
2011 1500 Sierra shortbed reg cab SLE in stealth gray
5.3L with 6L80
3.42 G80
Z85 HD suspension
Tow pkg w' cooling
Std alum wheels with 245/70x17's
Std AM/FM CD player
Deluxe titanium cloth with 60/40 bench
PW/PDL and all that stuff come with SLE pkg
Truck weighs 4450lb with under 1/4 tank of gas. May not do any more mods on this it runs so well, and build separate lighter vehicle??
I bought a CCI chrome grille off eBay for $80 instead of paying GM's identical one for $422. Added an Extang no-snap soft tonneau. Dropped rear susp 3" to level truck and added Calvert's 9-pos adjustable rear shocks. Also have upgraded the CAI and added Kooks w' catted Y and swapped OEM muffler for 25" long Magnaflow with 3" core.
Recently had both engine & tranny tuned and result is 301.5rwhp/316.6rtq, SAE corrected, by CAM in Durham. Temp was about 65deg that day on a properly set-up DynoJet.
