Too many unknowns - if he's got the peanut port heads he won't have any top end but he'll come off the line like a raped ape. His weight as a 2WD is on his side, cause you're a heavy 4WD, and if he's got DRs he probably knows what he's doing at the track. I think you're in trouble, but I'd love to be there and watch!

Thanks for your input guys. Once the track opens we will get out there and see what we each run. We were smack talking pretty fierce last night to each other. But whiskey will do that . . .

I'm pretty sure he'll get you if he has any time or thought in his setup, unfortunately. I lost by a fender to 70mph against an 08 Mustang GT in mine, but I'm tuned with a mild air intake. I think you will seriously have your hands full with that truck.

Also, from my experience with this truck and your stock status with the 3.42s, I would run him in 2Hi not 4Hi. If you had an extra 50+ hp and some more gear I would say to try him in 4Hi, but at your level it will cost you more power than it's worth.

You may be in trouble like stated, there are too many variables and unknown factors. I would try to get a Custom Tune on your vehicle asap though as it will wake it up a little bit.

If your buddies truck is setup correctly he will be gone way out in front of you, and a tune is not going to help much though. You need to find out what he runs at the track then you will know what you are getting into.

Most of those old Chevy truck run healthy high 13's or 14's they tend to fall on there face in the top end so a tune and it should be close if his truck is just a mild 454

I would try to find out all I could about his engine mods. Is it all stock internals with stock heads minus the cam? I think if he has the stock internals and stock heads you do have a good chance. Also find out how big of Carb he has on the engine, find out as much as you can. Did he ever tell you the estimated HP his 454 has? If he tells you it has something around 350HP flywheel and he is not lying, I think you have the race no probs if all goes well. 350hp would tell me it is pretty much stock if he wasn't lying on the numbers. I would try to get the estimated HP on his 454 out of him at least.

I know you said his 454 is pretty much stock except the cam, but people do and can lie about what they have as far as mods go. Some 454's are turds, but if someone puts time and effort into one they can be beasts. If he has forged internals, better heads, or anything like that then its getting pretty serious and you are in trouble unless something goes wrong with his vehicle.

Just give the race a shot an see how it goes at the dragstrip. I think you would have a better advantage from a roll like on the interstate if he has the Peanut heads someone was talking about which are made for more low end power and they have no top end.
