Question Cam Swap!

Well my 08 Silverado had a lifter go out yesterday and after looking more into it, this happens all the time because of the AFM crap. So I think I'm going to get the DOD delete kit and do a cam swap.

I don't want to go all out but I would like a good mild cam that works well with the stock stall. What do you guys suggest?

5.3? 4x4? Gear ratio? Need more info. Shot in the dark 212/218 is never a bad option.

What he said. And depending on how you use it the trick flow 216/220 is a great budget cam that is stock stall friendly to a certain extent.

Sorry, yes its a 5.3, 4x4, Not sure what the gear ratio is (Whatever stock is)

I just use the truck for everyday driving. I didn't plan on doing anything to it but once I read about all the problems with lifter failure, I decided to go ahead and get rid of the issue all together.

I was kinda thinking about the 224R.

224 needs stall and maybe gears. If your just going to drive it get something smaller. The first and second cams mentioned are a hella lot better than the 224 for everyday driving.

I'm in the same boat, and I don't mean to hijack but this question will benefit your build as well. Would an off the shelf cam work well, or would a custom grind be needed for a DD stock stall truck? Power under the curve is the main goal. (1000-4500)

I'm also curious. Daily 07 Tahoe PPV 2wd, 3:73s, FTI 2800/3k billet stall and 28.5" tall tires.

Check this out for your DOD delete parts, great deal with plenty of options.

The HT1 from sdparts would do amazing in your truck. Plenty of low end torque and still rip up top.

You would do really well with a proper 220/224 on XER lobes LSA 113+1 Tame enough for a DD and a super strong top/mid range that will match amazing with your stall/gears/tire height.
