Default Cam upgrade questions.....

so I've looked around and read all the threads on cams. I have a 2011 GMC Sierra 5.3L w/DOD. I am looking for a cam for my daily driver. I want something with a performance gain, and a better sound at idle. I dont want anything too loopy, this is my daily driver. I have a Corsa sport exhaust and a K&N intake. I know im going to have to get springs, pushrods, rockers. Do I have to change the timing chain and gears? I will also be in the market for a tune for when the cams are finished. Also does anyone know a good retailer for these performance parts? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

No need to change chain, nor gears. Only reason to change gears is if you go 3 bolt cam.

Sdpc is a good place or texas speed which are both sponsers

Being an '11 you may need a gear and timing cover because it's probably a vvt motor... Just found out most are.

Good catch on it being a 2011

Look at your front cover to see if it is smooth with 1 sensor. If it is VVT, there is a plate on the cover right behind the water pump, with 2 sensors

it's a vvt engine. comp has some smaller cams for the 5.3 vvt engines that are a plug n play deal. aside from springs. texas speed doesn't have a vvt cam small enough for the 5.3 that won't require a stall.

I have a VVT cam that I pulled out since it was a bit to big for my 4.8.. Couple thousand miles on it. You can check it out in the for sale section
