Which pump? What are the symptoms of breaking the pump?

The symptoms youre describing is a broken pump. You didnt seat the converter all the way and cracked teh pump when you bolted the trans to the motor.

Would the pump be leaking? There's no leaks at all

You need to measure the distance from the converter bolt hubs to the face of the bellhousing. The number of "clicks" isn't reliable with an aftermarket converter imo.
