Drained the can @ 2200 miles. This is about an oz of oil. Looked in the intake and it is dry, no oil. The can seems to be doing its job. (Is this why you use photobucket?) Click on image it'll flip.

I don't have a hose attached to the driver side. Is that normal on a 01 Silverado?

V8 or V6? All the Gen III/IV truck V8 engines pull dirty side air from the rear of the driver side valve cover to the top of the intake manifold. If you don't have some kind of PCV provision your engine won't run efficiently.

It's a 5.3 looks like there is a very small tube that runs from the top/center of manifold down to the PCV which is on the fuel rail? So that takes care of it?

Is it necessary to have a catch can if my motor is completely stock?

It's usually something you would you on a boosted application.

If your truck is drinking oil, then a catch can is necassary. Whether it is stock or boosted.
