Default Cold Air Intakes...

Ok, I am interested in the K&N intake for my truck. That's not my concern. After spending about 3 hours on here for research on CAI's, I never found the answer, so here is my question. Some people had mentioned that after installing the CAI, they were getting SES codes saying they were running lean. Is this normal? Also, does a CAI need a tune? I really don't want to get a tune, because I am a baby about the warranty. Any help? FYI, I have never put a CAI on any of my cars, so I don't really know what to expect. Thank ya!

you are better off just getting a reusable high flow air filter and keeping the stock intake box as its a true cold air intake......also if you wanted, you could replace the intake tube with an air raid MIT tube along with the better air filter. Pretty sure they make the MIT tube for your year truck....might want to double check

thats what i did... picked up an airaid mit tube and k&n drop airfilter in the factory air box. this is on a '08 5.3. i logged a '07 5.3 with full k&n air intake kit and his MAF and my MAF readings peaked near the same values as well as averaged the same readings thru out a WOT run. it does flow more than the stock paper filter and stock tubing from looking at older logs i did and MAF readings. but you know... not a whole hell of alot. but it aint worth, in my opinion, spending the extra money to get the whole intake kit.

i see your an '09 truck... you cant get the tube since your maf sensor is part of the stock air box. you might be able to get it to work. might have to call the manufacturer.

Volant makes one that fits perfect and works well in the NNBS trucks.

HOWEVER...we installed one on my 2010 5.3L and the new positioning of MAF, increased air movement and direction of air caused my truck to have P0101 code pop up every now an then. I also lost about 3-4 tenths in the 1/4 mile after installing it because it threw off my air/fuel, etc.

I had my truck tuned Friday @ Nelson Performance and the truck was sending way to much fuel at all times so he fixed that along with losing the DoD, TM, changing shift points, etc, etc.

No more codes have popped up in 400 plus miles and a lot of WOTs.

Taking it back to the track to get time slips to compare before installing Long Tubes and Ory.

So if you are not going to tune your truck I would also just recommended a higher flowing drop in filter for your stock box.
