I doubt it. Nelson and Ray had to put one in to tune it... Maybe just when it is low on gas it does this?

I don't know if there is an advantage to having 4 less gallons, but he had a pretty nasty motor in it prior to, then put back it the L92.

I think your fuel tank is probably factory, however when the new fuel pump was installed it may have been hung an inch or two higher in the tank. You basically ran out of gas and when you mashed the loud pedal, the remaining gas sloshed to the rear and it leaned out. This caused knock and sensor discrepancies so the truck went to limp mode.

That sounds like it is exactly what happened. Even though there is no sensor for a lean condition, the knocking would give it away.
