Really take a beating the first 3 years if you try to trade.

When I traded my '09 for this truck I did "ok" and that was even putting 0 down on the '09. After two years it was still worth 22k in trade to the dealer and I owed 20k, not too bad when I drove out for 28.8 originally on a 36.5 sticker truck.

Nature of the beast. I will never ever buy a new truck again. I will only buy used and pay in cash

This. Used is the only way to fly, new is an absolute 100% waste of money. Even if you can afford to pay cash for the new one. If you have to finance it, you can't afford it!

I got mine cheaper than I could find the same truck used, so I bought it new. The only way you won't see ridiculous depreciation is if you can manage to get rid of at least 20% of the MSRP at the dealer.

Ditto on the new-for-cheaper-than-used. Buying through USAA got the new truck price down at a time when used ones were selling fast and for high prices. I literally could have bought the same truck I got but a year or two old, for the same money.

I was going to pay cash, but then they told me that Ally was offering an additional $2,000 rebate if I financed. The only catch was that I had to keep the loan open for a minimum of three or four (I forget) months to keep the rebate. No problem with that! So I paid off 90 percent of the price on the first payment to keep the interest down, and a few monthly payments. Couldn't lose on that one.
