depreciation of the new truck

To be honest you didn't get a very good deal on your truck is probably why you can't get as much as you had hoped. You can get a loaded ltz 6.2 4wd for 34 or so otd.

I would have never bought a used 6.2 truck.

PLus when u get 11k+ off sticker that helps absorb the depreciation.
Vehicles are not much of an appreciating asset.
I've had some luck with used cars but you have to pay to have the hottest newest ride on the block. Plus having a family it really helps for them to be dependable, although not all new cars are....

I bought new because good luck trying to find a 2wd reg cab shortbox with the 5.3 in this area. You know it will depreciate but if that is ok then go ahead and buy what you want. Sometimes new is better, usually just costs more.

It doesn't help that GM is giving away trucks with 10-12K on the hood right now (as is everyone else as well), that will really kill your trade in value.

I'll probably keep this one for a long time, its been rock solid.

yea with all the options it was 32k. ltz non extended cab was the same price as mine but i wanted the 4 doors. heck the ltz crew was 36k

With the certified used cars that are out there now, that's what I prefer, unless what I want isn't available. I would buy a new truck, just because I get a supplier discount where I work, and the price difference between new and low mile(less than 35xxx) is only about 2 grand. The main thing is if you are thinking new, be ready to drive it for a long time to get your value out of it. The people who trade every 3-4 years should get used, or just lease.

This hasn't been my experience with short cycle trades, I always come out right side up (even with 0 down in some cases). I think this is because I always own 3-4 vehicles and don't rack up high mileage on vehicles that I am currently making payments on, typically less than 7k per year.

when i was considering trading in my truck, it only had 5k miles on it, and they offered me $11,300 less than sticker. i got it for $6k off sticker, but i still would have lost my a$$ on that trade.

anytime the manufacturer offers huge rebates and discounts, all its does is drive down the value of your trade in.

want to see some really horrible depreciation values...check out the mercedes s class hahahahaha

mercedes in general, any new model you want, just wait 2 years and it will be less than 30k.

bmw is nearly as bad.

once you get past 7-8 years old with any of them, they get dirt cheap to buy, but the maintenace is still just as expensive. i have had 6 bmw's ,and they didn't break often, but it was always at least $500 to fix anything on the car i couldn't get from the junkyard.
