Well the "best" DR is the Mickey Thomson et street dr's but they are pretty much a slick. You cannot drive them in the rain its insanity although in the dry they are a very nice street tire. The cornering grip is surprisingly very high ( I have a set for my 450 whp Camaro ) and of course straight line traction is insane. I believe the record is in the 6 second bracket for these tires now.

But if you want to daily drive then Id steer away from them. The nittos seem to have a good compromise for DD use vs grip. They arent bad but I can spin them pretty easy on my car. Same with the BFG dr's and they SUCK in the wet.

So Id go MT's for all out performance and Nittos for a middle of the road performance vs compromise.

As for size? You could probably run a 255 or even 275 if you can get a tall enough sidewall. The 4x4's come with 265's iirc stock

Yes it will fit. Just make sure you don't have some mom/pop shop do it. Take it somewhere who knows WTF they're doing.

I say the NT05 or the NT555... the MT's are great but they are extremely soft and won't last long. A buddy of mine went through them in a month...

not gonna put a lot of miles on them, just drive to track 15 miles away and make 6 runs or so then drive back home couple times a year.

Why not get a 275/50 m&h racemaster radial its 28" tall and ive heard they do good. And its probably the cheapest tire for 17" rim

Hmmm the 40 might be tricky to mount on that rim. I have the same size on a 10" wheel for my Camaro for instance.
