Exhaust cut-out.
So I got my exhaust cut-out installed on my GMC. It's loud of course ( it can wake up the dead when I stomp the gas), and it sounds good to me. Of course some people wouldn't like it but they don't like big cams either. I'd call them Un-American.
Seat of the pants it seems to have helped out more than I thought it would, I'm very skeptical so I thought it might give me maybe 5 horsepower but it feels like more. I think my Gibson exhaust must be very restrictive for a performance exhaust, its a large chambered muffler so I can see that being possible.
I took the truck down the street this morning to my favorite burnout spot( I have a few pairs of 25 foot black stripes) and tried a burn-out. I tell you this, if I didn't leave a pair of black stripes 75-100 feet long I didn't leave any. That was the first burnout I did where the truck actually shifted to second gear during the burnout. Of course it got traction soon after shifting to second but it was definitely better!
The ambient temps were probably 10 degrees cooler than when I tried it last before the cut-out but I don't know if that made all of that difference.
I'm going to try back to back 1/4 mile runs tomorrow night with the cutout capped and uncapped to see just how much quicker it really is.

No I went el-cheapo with that thing. I have been spending to much lately. It just has a cap with the wing nuts to tighten it. No big deal my trucks not lowered so I can un-cork it where ever I'm at.
I'll make a video and pics soon.

cut outs dont add HP or improve track times.... IMO
I have one on my 08 with an electric switch. Went down the 1/4 closed, open, closed to open by the 1/8, then open to closed by the 1/8...
all the times were almost identical

I have the DMH electric cutout and I don't really see a difference either.
I have a full 3 inch exhaust, but stock manifolds and stock y. (yea I know, booooo)
I don't really see a difference either. I think with it open I have less down low really cause there is no back preasure.

it all depends on how restrictive your muffler is. I have personally ran it open vs closed thru a flowmaster and picked up two tenths with it open. id be willing to bet it helps this guy out at least a tenth.
