Default Gears and Locker/LSD

i got a 07 WT with a 4.8 with 3:23 gears in it right now with 245/70R17 tires. I'm looking to beef up the rear end with a new diff cover gears and a good limited slip in it. I drive it everyday and i want to keep some kind of mileage in mind. Was wondering if i could get some imput on this since i've been looking around and can't really find anything to suit my needs.

OEM gears are good. Eaton posi is good. Diff cover use whatever they're all pretty much the same. ebay has all those parts cheap as ballz

Get a nice TA Performance cast aluminum diff cover. Extra fluid capacity and better cooling.

I got a True Trac and 4.56 G2 gears waiting to go in my 08. True Trac I got from Randy's on here. A friend is running G2s in his truck and they are quiet and set up very well.

I've decide im going to go with a prerunner look/performance i'm really looking to leave the engine to just bolt's and gearing it to run 31 inch tall tires and occasionally a 28 to 31 inch tall paddle tire so i want a gear thats gonna run good on the street and enough to get me around off road occasionally.

I have the same truck with 3.73 gears and stock locker and love it..

If i had it to do over and had planned to get an aftermarket tune right off the bat i would do 3.90.. much more than that and i wouldnt think you would truely want to drive it all the time..

hey thanks for the help^^ i was kind of half decide on 3:73's or 4:10's i figured 4:10's would be to much and 3:73's wouldn't be enough but the 3:90 sounds about right. Do you know anywhere online that i could get a set of gears i've looked around here for a few but never really can find a decent sight.

I think 4.10s are perfect in with a heavy 4.8 4x4. you can make up for that loss of low end torque in a 4.8. 3.90s would still be a good improvement coming from 3.23s though. I had the same concerns when i did my gear swap but in a heavy truck the 4.10s are awesome. The tru trac works great and my next mod for the rear will be the TA cover as well.

I haven't driven a 4.8 for several years, but while shopping for my new truck a couple months ago I test drove a 5.3 with 3.08 back-to-back with a 5.3 with 3.42 - and the difference was amazing. So, yeah, I'd have to say that either 3.90 or 4.10 will make a HUGE difference for you.

Enjoy!
